When I was but a boy, my grandmother would
often say, “Today is the tomorrow you worried about
yesterday.” Now that I am a professional grandfather,
I understand the wisdom and truth of those words.
When i was “kind of a hippie” in the sixties, there
was
a bumper sticker that declared for the whole
world to see, “Today is the first day of the rest of your
Life.” Now that I’ve lived for more than 20,800 of those
first days”, I see the value and wisdom of each day.
In Matthew 6.34, Jesus is preaching the Sermon on
the Mount and He says, “Do not worry about tomorrow;
for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough
trouble of its own.” Isn’t that the truth? I’ve learned
that most of the stuff I worried about didn’t happen.
My goal is to approach each new day like the Psalmist
and say, “This is the day the Lord has made! I will rejoice
and be glad in it.”
